When you save on electricity it doesn't just save money, it also saves our environment. This is a new thing to a lot of individuals. Since of course, when you plug something into the socket, it seems clean enough -- you don't see or smell any pollution, like you do with your vehicle. However the pollution is there -- it just occurs at the power plant. Most electrical energy is produced by burning up coal along with other fossil fuels. That's because, as he says, we can't stop the oil from being burned up for transportation, since if we don't use it, another nation will. But we could definitely stop burning our coal. Note just that as the age of oil is due a close (we've already utilized over half of the oil which exists on the planet), our energy appetite puts more pressure for utilities to build risky nuclear power plants.

Thinking of going solar? Solar is indeed now affordable in so many cases. My worry about this is that, just like with automobiles, people are looking for an alternative fuel source so they can continue blissfully utilizing ridiculous amounts of energy. An even better approach is for us to just stop utilizing such a ridiculous amount of energy firstly!

In fact, conservation is pretty easy; the problem is that many people don't wish to do it. This is why people bought SUV's in droves. (Of course, the cost of gas used to be less, but the point is, even then, people were still buying the most inefficient cars available to them. The truth that they used to be more cost effective to drive is rather irrelevant.) When I go to the gym, I observe that everybody has switched on the little TV attached to the treadmill machine or exercycle. I always go and turn all of them off, but most likely 90% of the people who use those machines again will turn the TV back on and leave it on when they leave. That's a simple way to see why we've got a problem. If a lot of people won't do an easy thing, like turning off a TV when they're not utilizing it, how could we expect them to do things which actually require a small amount of effort?
